This mindful and very accessible art form will change the way you see your world and create lasting memories.

During your stay, I teach using carefully researched techniques, enabling you you to draw more fluidly and develop you own unique style without fear.

I particularly love teaching nervous beginners and watching their joy as they develop new skills and confidence!

Retreats will often have much more than just art on offer. Whilst each course varies, there might be yoga, boat trips, picnics and local cultural tours. There’ll also be time for you to explore your surroundings as you wish.

Creative Retreats in The Algarve, Portugal

Come sketching with me in one of Portugal’s most special seaside towns, beautiful Olhão.

Wander the cobbled streets and catch a glimpse of the shining lagoon that is the Ria Formosa from one of a maze of narrow alleys.

Clustered around its famous covered fish and vegetable market, Olhão offers the warmest of welcomes and has so much to offer. Islands edged with white sandy beaches, incredible food, safe swimming, ferry rides, farmers markets, great restaurants and a host of fascinating towns all within easy reach by train.

Sketch Book Holidays in Southern Spain

Join me and our host Katja at the stunningly beautiful Hacienda Labonita. A Working farm half an hours drive from Malaga.

Katja’s avocado and citrus farm provides an idyllic place for my Spanish sketchbook retreat.

Wander the farm and streets of southern Spain and learn a huge range of skills to improve and gain confidence whilst sketching plein-air.

This retreat is an easy-going art holiday ideal for both beginners and more confident sketchbookers. As well as learning, there is always plenty of time to enjoy the stunning surroundings, pool and delicious food.

Art workshops with Julie Sajous
Sketchbook Workshops. Keeping a sketchbook is a creative form like no other. There really are no limits; it’s portable, cheap and a wonderful antidote for the high speed, smartphone-snapping world we live in. Sketching slows you down, makes you look, creates strong memories of place and time and gives you space in which to record whatever takes your fancy. And the best thing is that with the right input I believe anyone can do it, regardless of their experience! Along with my regular weekly classes, I am now able to offer themed Sketchbook Workshops, either for individuals or for groups and based in my studio or at a location that you choose. Get your best friends together and have a memorable experience at the same time learning lifelong skills. Together we can design an experience that suits you, either studio based or out and about according to your wishes. Workshops start from just from three hours for an introduction, but can also be planned for longer (two days back-to-back works really well). I provide your group with carefully planned tuition which will enable beginners to be sketching in no time. The classes consist of exercises, demonstrations, one-to-one tuition and some challenges! They are great fun, inclusive, encouraging and enable anyone to start a sketchbook habit; a fantastic way of recording what there is around us. All materials are included and you will be given your own sketchbook which you take home with you. Workshops start at £10 per person per hour including materials. I am also able to travel off Island to accommodate your plans. Please ask me for more information.
